Subito prima che il borgo fosse messo a fuoco dai saraceni Kinzica riuscì a raggiungere i consoli della città, che, suonando con forza le campane della torre del Palazzo degli Anziani, riuscirono ad avvisare la popolazione. A questo punto la leggenda diverge leggermente. Una versione vuole che, mentre la città si metteva in armi, i pirati, scoraggiati dal fallimento del loro attacco a sorpresa, si ritirassero velocemente al suono delle campane, che si amplificava nel silenzio della notte. L'altra versione vuole che i cittadini pisani avessero combattuto aspramente gli invasori saraceni, con Kinzica stessa che nel cuore della battaglia li incitava a resistere. I pisani ottennero una schiacciante vittoria e tutti i saraceni furono uccisi. Il pirata Mujāhid (Musetto) non doveva evidentemente essere tra questi, perché le fonti storiche dicono che morì in altre circostanze.
