History

of Hotel Villa Kinzica

Tradition

It is said that the young Kinzica, who could not sleep that night, was the first to notice that the pirates were furtively landing in the southern district of the city, which at the time was particularly deprived of men capable of defending it. Just before the village was set on fire by the Saracens, Kinzica managed to reach the city's consuls, who, by forcefully ringing the bells of the tower of the Palazzo degli Anziani, managed to warn the population.

At this point the legend diverges slightly. One version says that, while the city was taking up arms, the pirates, discouraged by the failure of their surprise attack, quickly retreated at the sound of the bells, which amplified in the silence of the night.

The other version says that the Pisan citizens fought fiercely against the Saracen invaders, with Kinzica herself inciting them to resist in the heat of battle. The Pisans obtained a crushing victory and all the Saracens were killed. The pirate Mujāhid (Musetto) evidently was not among them, because historical sources say that he died in other circumstances.
